Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to register on the website?
Our events are exclusive to the Darwin Defence community and their families. Because of that, only approved members have access to our 'buy tickets + rsvp' webpage to prevent any member of the public from responding or purchasing tickets to any of our events.
How do I register on the website?
In our menu, click on the 'log in / register' option. Alternatively, by clicking on our 'buy tickets + rsvp' link you will also be prompted to either log in or register. A pop up will appear asking for your email address and name.
Once you submit that information, our web team will receive a notification of your application. We'll then approve or decline your membership accordingly. (Please note: Only members of our Defence community are invited to register)
After you have been approved, you will receive a welcome email and have access to the Defence Community-only areas of our website.
Where are you located?
Larrakeyah Community House resides on the Larrakeyah Defence Precinct, at 20 Stevens Terrace. You will require a Pass to access the Base, or be escorted as a Visitor by someone who has a Pass with Escort rights.
Once arriving on the Base, drive up Allen Avenue and turn right on Herring Place. At the end of that road you will see the Community House straight in front of you.
(Directions correct at time of publish. Currently Larrakeyah Defence Precinct is undergoing some building and roadworks which may impact how you get to our Community House in future.)
Who runs the Larrakeyah Community House?
We have a Board of Committee Members. Any member of the Darwin Defence community is welcome to join our committee or attend our committee meetings throughout the year. We have one member of staff, our House Coordinator, who oversees the weekly activities and events as well as the general running of the Community House. We also have a growing team of dedicated volunteers who help during busy periods, events and holidays.
What kind of activities do you run?
We service the community and try to accommodate the needs of everyone.
Currently we run two social child playgroups, an adult fitness class and coffee morning during school term time. Plus, school holiday activities for the kids. We also work alongside the Robertson Barracks Family Group to provide a monthly Ladies Night Dinner (child-free), and an after school club once a fortnight. Our activities are subject to change, so please visit our weekly activities page or contact us for more information.
If you like books or wine, you might want to join the local Book Club called 'Reading Between The Wines' who meet once a month.
Our special events vary. These events often require RSVP's due to the limited availability or cost.
In the past we have run First Aid & CPR courses, kids & adults craft workshops, STEM workshops, movie screenings, health & wellness events, seasonal parties, including face painting, fancy dress, animal encounters and more!
How do I find out about your special events?
We advertise our special events regularly. You'll find the most up to date information on our website, private Facebook Group or in our Newsletter.
